Meg was seated on the same table at Joann Formosa - who won Individual Gold at the 2012 Para Olympics in Equestrian.

It was a great night raising lots of money for a worthwhile cause and Meg even got up and danced, well not really danced just wiggled!!!

star BREAK DOWN - QLD - 18.04.2011 star

Heading home from HH Sh. Majid Al Maktoum race in QLD we were 80km from Goondawindi.

Numerus calls for roadside assistance ended up with these results : they can't get there, no one here to send out to you and maybe might eventually get to you (next week!). So Wendy, Kristie & Von were once riders & strappers are now mechanics too!!

We were carting 9 horses - so a daunting task of unloading on a main highway.

We were hoping for just a flat tyre - not so lucky, we fixed something, got back onto the road and made it to Goondawindi on darkstar

farewell castlebar tradition

On Saturday 12th February Castlebar lost one of it's foundation mares Castlebar Tradition.  It appears she was trapped by a flooded creek and drowned. Luckily her foal was not caught in the waters and is now dry in a stable and is drinking milk out of a bucket.  The foal Castlebar Top Gear (pd) is two and a half months old.

All at Castlebar have been affected by this tragic loss.

Tradition was a very successful endurance horse before joining the broodmares.  She completed over 2,000 successful kilometers with highlights such as 1st MWT SA State Champs 2004, 12th place FEI New Zealand Championships 2004,

2nd Youth FEI Australian Youth Championships 2005, and was successful in the "short" Quilty in Tasmania 2005.

Tradition has been buried on the rise overlooking the stables alongside Lady Claire & Wagga Belmaystar

to Carmen Romer of The Netherlands with the success on her homebred mare Luna.

Luna is out of the Australian mare Glenallan Sheida who Meg took to the World Equestrian Games held in The Netherlands at

The Hague in 1994. Following this event Sheida was purchased by Carmen's father and ridden successfully in competition in Europe by Carmen.  Glenallan Sheida was originally owned by Roy Counsell and was sold to Meg on the Counsell family moving to Lightning Ridge.

Sheida was born in 1979 and is out of a non registered mare Sheila and is by the sire of many endurance winning horses, Diabolo.

Meg and Sheida had an extensive ride record including riding in the 1991 & 1992 Tom Quilty's for 2 x 2nd LWT.

Luna is following in her mothers footsteps with completing 10 from 11 rides including 2 x 2nd place & 1 x BC in FEI *** 160km rides in Germany this year.

Congratulations to Carmen on her selection for The Netherlands Endurance Team for this years WEG in Kentucky USA.

D.O.B : 24.10.2006

Sire : Seraja

Dam : Castlebar Shiralee

CASTLEBAR SHEKO is one of our upcoming young stallions. He is a very athletic and we are pretty excited for his return from the breakers in the next few weeks.

CASTLEBAR SHEKO is by our foundation sire SERAJA.  SERAJA himself was a very successful endurance horse in the period 1989-1992 winning regularly with excellent heart rate recoveries . His progeny have been excelling in endurance both nationally and internationally most notably CASTLEBAR MACLEOD - winner of the 2003 160km Tom Quilty Gold Cup, 14th -2002 160km World Championships held in Spain, winner of the 167km FEI 3* Burrowye 2003 and many other wins ranging from 80-160km.

SHEKO'S dam CASTLEBAR SHIRALEE herself was a competitive mare with an injury cutting her career short. Both her sire and dam are the foundation bloodlines of Castlebar making her a valuable asset as a broodmarestar

D.O.B : 19.12.2007

Sire : Castlebar Gulfstream

Dam : Wybalena Lodge Schuska

CASTLEBAR STEALTH is another upcoming young sire. These two photos are of Stealth in paddock condition in January 2010. We only put a brush on him 5 minutes before these were taken.

His sire CASTLEBAR GULFSTREAM has completed 6 Open rides to date with ease. The last :

December 2009 - Upper Murray 120km FEI 2* - 4th Open.

He is a full brother to both CRYSTAL FLYER & KURRAJONG CONCORDE.

- KURRAJONG CONCORDE - 2008 Tom Quilty - 6th MWT, 2009 Tom Quilty - 3rd MWT.  She is the winner over many distances and is still campaigned by Castlebar.

STEALTH'S dam completed over 4,000km in endurance rides.  She was the winner of many distances some with HWT riders. SCHUSKA also competed overseas.

 - December 2005 - Young Riders 120km World Championships held in Bahrain - 11th.

 - June 2006 - Monpazier 160km - 5th.

 - August 2006 - 160km World Championships held in Aachen - 29th.

We had a fire two weeks ago during the Total Fire Ban with temperatures 40 degrees plus. This fire was 500 meters South of our boundary to The Glenn at Mt Alfred.  With quick response from the neighbours and the local CFA they stopped it from almost reaching our boundary fence. The terrain was so steep that 2 helicopters, 3 bulldozers and 1 fixed wing airplane were used with assistance from the ground crew to get the fire under control. It took 4 days to black out the fire area with flare up's happening on a daily basis.

Horses closest to the fire were moved to the covered yards at The Glenn unharmedstar                                                     (Posted 22/01/2010)

2009 Hay season is well under way. 2,500 bales of pasture hay are in the shed already but as you can see a lot more to go along with another paddock to cut and bale.  The girls are avoiding the hay truck like the plague!  Little wonder it is over 30 deg C outside and no AC in the truck. The two guys carting the hay are 3rd year Vet students from Charles Sturt Uni at Wagga Waggastar                    (Posted 14/12/09)

Shandelle did it again, she fell off in not so pretty a manner. The horse believed it was time to walk off and Shandelle was too slow getting on - an awkward situation ended up with Shandelle on the grass and the horse trotted off and waited to be caught.

It is a custom at Castlebar that if you hit the deck outside of the arena you use to owe a slab of beer but due to the risk of the girls nearly all riding heavyweight division it was decided that a chocolate cake and lollies be the deal.

Much appreciated Shandelle - tasted great!!star
